Message Board Signature Pictures

First thing you want to do is find an image. If it's a professional image, make sure it's not copyrighted by emailing the artist before using it. Please, for the sake of those people who are stuck on a dial up connection, and just to be a polite member of our community, do not choose an image that's over 200kb in size, and over 500x500 in dimension. Images that are too big make browsing the boards slow, and images that are too wide cause the screen to resize which makes reading messages very difficult. If you need help resizing an image, email Shanti. Also note, inappropriate sig pics will be removed by Staff.

Then, you'll need to have your image out on the net somewhere, so other people can view it. In other words, you'll need to have it hosted. If you have webspace that came with your ISP package that's a good place to start, but there are also players who have offered the service of hosting images, skins, and other data. Search the boards for players who offer this service, or you can email signature pics to RoKWorld@RoKWorld.com for hosting.

NOTE: Free hosting services like Angelfire, Tripods, and Geocities do not allow you to link directly to images from message boards.

Once you've got an image selected and uploaded to some webspace, log onto the message boards. In the upper right hand corner, there's an option to view your Profile. When you enter the View/Update Profile screen, near the bottom is a text box where you can enter your signature. HTML code does not work here, but UBB code does. UBBCode is a variation on HTML tags that allows you to add functionality or style to your message that would normally require HTML. The commands are pretty simple and easy to learn.

The UBB tag for displaying an image is simply, [img]. Now you have to tell it where your image is, the url, for example only: http://www.rokworld.com/rokworldlogo.gif. Next, tell it to end the image tag by typing [/img]. The whole thing together should look like this:

[img]http://www.rokworld.com/rokworldlogo.gif[/img]
(Substitue your image's address for the RoK World address given.)

If you want to test out your signature, log on to the boards and go to the Unrelated Topics forum. You'll usually see two or three "Sig Test" posts on the first page. Reply to one of these and check to see how your image looks!
