Command List

This is a list of commands for Realms of Kaos. If you notice any typos, please email RoKWorld@RoKWorld.com. Thanks!

This page was last updated on 04/20/04

  • Some commands can only be used by certain people or in certain locations, as is noted in their descriptions below.

  • The targets of most actions can be spelt in full or partially. It is suggested you type at least three letters to prevent the accidental targeting of the wrong person/thing. Abbreviating target names does not work with items unless you are picking the item up off the ground.

  • Almost all commands have an equivalent that is accessible with the mouse, either with one of the special cursors available in the lower right corner of the client, or by right clicking on the item or player. Some notable Mouse Commands can be found at the bottom of this list. Note, some spells and skills can only be cast/used by right clicking on the item.

Movement Commands

up, down, north, south, east, west, northeast, southeast, southwest, northwest : Moves your character in the indicated direction, if possible.

u, d, n, s, e, w, ne, se, nw, sw : Shortcuts for the above.

Note, there are only a few places where you will still see the in-between directions (ne, se, nw, sw) as they were removed to accommodate the Automap.

CTRL + Number pad arrow keys : You can navigate through the Realms using the arrows on the number pad while holding down the CTRL key. North is up or 8, South is down or 2, West is left or 4 and East is right or 6, Up is 9 and Down is 3.

AutoMap : With the Beta version of the client DM introduced an AutoMap that remembers every room you've walked to (it stores this as dat files in the "bin" folder on your computer). You can view the AutoMap by selecting the "Map" tab in the upper left section of the client. Clicking on a square in the direction that you want to go will move you there, and you can click multiple times to stack commands and move quickly through the Realms.

/newmove : This command was used to launch the "new" movement system where you were able to move by using the arrow keys and you saw a "three dimensional" view of the city streets. Arrow-up moved you forward, arrow left and right changed your view to the applicable direction (as if you had turned left or right), and arrow down was to turn around and walk forward. The direction you faced was displayed just above the room image. It was never fully implemented and Talendar was the only city with /newmove images. This system of movement was removed in lieu of the AutoMap that was introduced with the Beta client. It was because of this, and later for the AutoMap, that most intermediary directions (ne, nw, se, sw) were removed from the game.

Communication Commands

/d NAME MESSAGE : Directs a MESSAGE to a player or NPC (NAME) who is in the same room as your character. (Adds their name in front of your message so everyone knows who you are talking to).

/ignore NAME : Ignores (blocks) any pages from the player NAME. The target then receives a message that you have chosen to ignore their pages when they attempt to send you a message.

/page NAME MESSAGE : Sends MESSAGE to person NAME, no matter where they are in the Realms. The target receives the message with your name and the name of the square you paged them from.

/p NAME MESSAGE : Shortcut for /page.

/remember NAME : Remembers someone that you put on your /ignore list so you can once again receive pages from them.

/whisper NAME MESSAGE : Sends a private message the target. They must be in same room as your character.

/w NAME MESSAGE : Shortcut for /whisper.

Class Specific Commands

cast SPELL NAME : casts spell SPELL on target NAME. This command takes up an attack.

c SPELL NAME : Shortcut for cast. This command takes up an attack.

/purge SPELLNAME : This allows Spellcasters to erase a spell from their spell scroll. This command is useful when you reach your limit of 20 spells, to free up room for a new spell. I am unsure if this limit still applies, or is planned to remain in the future.

/hide : If you are a member of the Rogue classes, this command allows you to hide in the shadows of a room. You cannot be seen on the list of people in the room unless someone actively searches (/search) and locates you. Most NPC's randomly search the area and usually find you eventually. Any action besides the /me command will reveal your presence to other players or NPC's. Attacking while hidden enables the BACKSTAB ability (up to double your maximum regular damage for Thieves, and up to quadruple damage for Assassins). This command takes up an attack.

/autosneak : A Rogue ability that allows you to automatically attempt to sneak (see below) with every move. When autosneaking, the number of spaces you can move before becoming exhausted is equal to your level (i.e. a level 15 thief can sneak 15 spaces before exhausting). If you attempt to autosneak in a direction where there is no exit, it still counts as an attempt and can exhaust you. Autosneak does not currently reset with time, so you can autosneak into the room, use up your attacks and become ready, then sneak one more space and become exhausted again.

sneak DIRECTION : A Rogue command that attempts to move you in the DIRECTION indicated without showing you entering the new location or leaving the current one. While they may not see you enter or leave, anyone who looks around will see a player who is sneaking. If you sneak onto a square with NPC's, they will eventually look around and notice you. Like Autosneak, the number of spaces you can move before becoming exhausted is equal to your level. If you attempt to sneak in a direction where there is no exit, it still counts as an attempt and can exhaust you.

/rob NAME : A Thief ability in which you attempt to steal gold from person or NPC based on your Agility, and some believe also based on the target's Intelligence. You gain experience based on the amount you rob from a Non-Player Character (i.e. monster). This command takes up an attack.

steal NAME : Same command as /rob.

/stalk NAME : (note that the full name must be typed) This is an Assassin, Ranger and Druid ability. If the person you are stalking has recently traveled through your location, /stalk will automatically track that person and move you in the direction they went. This automatically continues until you come upon the person's location or lose their trail. Stalking only works for a short amount of time after the person has passed your trail. You cannot track someone who is levitating (through the mage spell airwalk) and you cannot track someone who has used /autosneak or sneak to move around. Type /hstalk to stop stalking.

/hstalk : Halts stalking. See /stalk above.

/backtrack : This is, in effect, a backwards /stalk on yourself. Allows you to automatically follow your own trail back to your starting location. Note that you may get lost if you "looped" your path. Available to classes that can /stalk.

/hbacktrack : Halts /backtracking. See /backtrack above.

/tame CREATURE : This is a Ranger ability that attempts to bring the target under your control. Your success depends on your level compared to the level of creature and your Charisma. Currently you can attempt to tame even when you are exhausted, but eventually it will be limited to your number of attacks per round. You are limited and cannot tame more creatures if you have 5 or more already in your party. If you try to tame more, it will appear to you that you are attempting to tame, but nothing will happen and no one else will see the attempt. This is believed to be a bug and it should eventually give you an error when attempt to tame and have reached your party limit. Note, not all NPC's are tamable.

/track NAME : A Ranger ability that is supposed to tell you if person/creature NAME was in the area recently, and which way they went.

/hunt : A Ranger ability that enables you to find food in the wild. (not implemented yet.)

/forage : A Druid, Ranger and Monk ability that allows the player to collect an herb that they notice growing nearby. Only these classes will be able to see the plant in the room's description. The herbs collected are used in brewing potions. This command takes up an attack.

Herbs that can be collected from foraging are: Coffee Beans, Moon Plant, Rosemary, Star Fruit, Ginger Root, Mint Leaves, Troll Ear, Soybeans, and Garlic.

/tw : I believe this stands for "Toggle Wield" or "Toggle Weapon" (Thanks Stella Blue). For classes that can equip two weapons, i.e. Rangers, Monks, and Assassins, this allows you to switch from one weapon to another without having to unequip and reequip your weapons.

/protect : This is a Paladin-only command that allows the holy warrior to "protect" another character, taking all blows directed at their charge onto themselves. Paladins may only protect one character at a time.

/skill SKILLNAME : This command allows you to use skills listed on your skill/spell scroll by typing instead of right clicking. This includes Bard songs and brewing potions.

Item name must be spelled in full and if you have more than one in your inventory it will default to giving an item from the bottom row of your inventory, going from right to left (the reverse of the order that your inventory fills up when you pick up items).

look THING : Displays the description of person, item or creature. If just look, l or a space is typed, your character will "look around," displaying a more detailed description of the area. Pressing enter (no typing) also does this. There are often clues hidden in the descriptions of items that you can look at like signs, statues, etc. There are also some places where you can look in a direction and it will give you information about the path in that direction i.e. "look east".

L : Shortcut for look (Just typing a space, then the target will do the same thing.)

kick, push, pull, spin : Verb actions that, when proceeded by an item name, may trigger an event, such as opening a secret staircase or triggering a pit. i.e. push statue, pull candlestick. Clues as to what items can be pulled or pushed are contained in the room's description.

EMOTES: blush, bow, compliment, disagree, duel, eye, frown, gasp, giggle, greet, grin, grumble, headbutt, hug, kiss, kick, laugh, lick, lol, nod, pat, pet, poke, psd, raspberry, rofl, salute, seduce, sigh, slap, smack, smile, smirk, smooch, spank, taunt, tackle, tease, and wave. : fun actions that simply add depth and interaction to the game. Try typing them on their own or preceding someone's name to do the action. More information about Emotes can be found by clicking here.

/pattack : A party command that is used to signal all NPC's in the party (i.e. tamed, charmed and summoned monsters) to attack anything that is not in the party. You can command one specific NPC in the party to follow/attack or halt following/attacking by right clicking on it's image on the right and selecting "Order" then the command that you want to give.

/pfollow : A party command that is used to make everyone in the party automatically follow the party leader when the leader moves to a new location. Note that in this mode, only the party leader needs equipment or keys to move through obstacles (i.e. rope for pits)

This is an ability used to warp players into events or to conduct business. /rwarp PlayerName : "Reverse Warp" Teleports the Player to the Staff member's current square.

/pset "plan" : This command allows those members of Staff who contribute to the development of the Realms, i.e.: Quest Staff, Artists, Writers and Builders, to keep players updated on current projects and developments.
