Your character's statistics will determine how s/he interacts and performs within the game. The desire for as many perfect stats as possible has become a big focus for Realms of Kaos. Most people don't even bother with a character if it doesn't have at least 3-4 perfect stats for it's race. It's really a matter of personal preference, one stat in strength or endurance can make or break a character in several situations.
Here's what the Official Realms of Kaos FAQ has to say about
perfect stats:
Q: Are 'perfect' stats really that important?
A: Opinions vary from player to player. Some players
insist on spending hours rolling 'perfect' stats for their characters while
others are content with the best stats that they can get within 5 minutes or
so of rolling. ALL characters are playable, and each character has its own
inherent strengths and weaknesses, regardless of stats. There are MANY factors
involved in how your character interacts with the game and stats are just one
of them. Some players enjoy the challenge of playing a character with 'sub
par' stats and others do not. It all depends on your playing style. Just know
that having 'perfect' stats does NOT mean that your character will be perfect,
or that you'll win every battle. Skill, familiarity with your character, and
knowing how to use your abilities are the biggest factors to winning any
battle or accomplishing any quest.
One thing to keep in mind when rolling, the major factor in playing RoK that is the underlying force behind all actions is: Luck. A perfect character can do terribly at times, and a character with fairly good stats can do great. It's partially math, partially the player's own skill, but mostly luck.
So, Good Luck and Happy Rolling!
- Strength - Str - Strength represents the physical power and appearance of your character. Strength is directly related to the amount of damage you do when attacking.
It also determines the build of your character, meaning depending on your
strength, when people look you over it will say "He/She looks incredibly
strong," "He/She has a muscular build," "He/She is of an
average build," or "He/She is slim and slightly built."
- Intelligence - Int - Your intelligence determines a Spellcaster's effectiveness in casting
spells. The higher your int, the less likely you are to
"fizzle" when attempting to cast a spell. It also increases the
length of spells and damage you do with direct damage spells and the amount
you heal for with healing spells. a . Intelligence also effects Rogues' ability to hide and
sneak, any character's ability to search whether it be looking for hidden doors, locating and disarming traps (Thieves only) or revealing a hidden player.
Characters with high intelligence will show "His/Her eyes shine with
intelligence." when people look them over.
- Agility - Agi - Agility is a very important statistic that helps your character hit more successfully and dodge or parry attacks. Agility is also important for Thieves as it helps you to steal gold.
Also, if your agility is high the phrase "His/Her movements are quick and
agile."
is added into your description when people look you over.
- Endurance - End - Much like Stamina from D&D, endurance determines how much physical stamina your character has and how much damage can be taken before your character is killed. Endurance is directly related to the amount of hit points your character receives with each level.
Example:
22 endurance gives 825 hit points at level 25
21 endurance gives 800 hit points at level 25
20 endurance gives 750 hit points at level 25
19 endurance gives 724 hit points at level 25
18 endurance gives 675 hit points at level 25
17 endurance gives 649 hit points at level 25
16 endurance gives 600 hit points at level 25
15 endurance gives 574 hit points at level 25
14 endurance gives 525 hit points at level 25
13 endurance gives 499 hit points at level 25
12 endurance gives 450 hit points at level 25
- Less than 12 endurance will give you the same HP as 12.
- Anything less than 15 endurance is not advisable. With that few hit points you won't get far for long without a lot of healing and/or potions.
- Barbarians will receive 2 additional hit points per level for an overall 50 extra hit points as a class
bonus, Knights will receive 4 additional hit points for a for an overall 100
extra hit points.
- For
more detailed information on how many hit points you will have at each level
with each value of endurance, check out the
Hitpoint Calculator.
- Wisdom - Wis - Wisdom is a measure of your character's common sense and judgment. Wisdom helps to determine your magic resistance and affects some spellcasting abilities (example: The strength of a Druid's Animorph spell depends on Wisdom *see
chart below*). Wisdom and Class both have an effect on the amount of magic points, or mana that a spellcaster has. See this report for more information.

- Charisma - Chr - Charisma is a general rating of your character's physical looks and personality. High charisma is especially important to Druids and Rangers, as it helps determine the success of taming and charming non-player characters.
Depending upon your charisma, the phrase "He/She is extremely attractive", "He/She is rather average looking", or "He/She is somewhat ugly"
is added into your description when people look you over.
- Hit Points - HP - Hits - Life/Health -As stated above, the amount of life your character
has is directly determined by
endurance and level. Once your character takes damage equal to or greater
than his HP he dies. Barbarians and Knights have increased HP.
- Mana - Mana Points - MP -Magic Points are used whenever a player casts a spell. Certain spells cost
different amounts of MP. The amount of MP you have is directly related to
your level, your class, and possibly your wisdom. Characters who can not cast spells
will always have 0 MP. Your mana will recharge slowly whenever you are
logged on at a rate of about 1 point per round, faster if you are in special
areas like your temple or an alchemy. You can refill your mana by using items such as "Manastones."
- Armor - AC -
Armor is directly affected by the equipment your character is wearing. Body
Armor, Helmet, and Shield can all increase your armor. Some classes, like
monks/ninjas, have a natural armor bonus even when not wearing any
equipment. There are also some spells that increase your armor (example:
stoneskin, haste, animorph). A higher armor makes it more difficult for
other players/monsters to hit you when attacking and also reduces the damage
that they do when they hit. Having over 100 armor is usually considered to
be really high.
- Level - lvl - The level of your character shows how experienced he/she is throughout the
realms. All players begin at level 1 and currently the maximum level that
can be obtained is 25. When a character gets to level 25 it resets his level
to 1, but he is still considered to be a "25er" or a character
that is level 25. The higher your level the better your character is. Every
aspect of your character increases with your level.
- Experience - exp - This shows the exact amount of experience your character currently has. A
certain amount of experience is required before you can successfully train
to gain a level up. The experience tables can be found Here.
Once a character reaches level 25, experience is reset to 0.
- THAC0 - The so called "hidden stat" that people talk about. THAC0 stands
for "To Hit Armor Class 0" and is a term taken from D&D. In
RoK it is constant depending upon your level and class and it directly
affects your hit rate. It is the only stat that the players cannot see.
